a Breath, of Sanity

on December 21,  2012,  at around midnight,  I was sitting with friends and family honoring the 56th birthday of my brother Dave at a local tavern, when I tossed what was left of my pack of cigarettes on the bar,  got up from the bar stool,  said my goodbyes,  and walked off toward whatever remains of the days of my life,  and the hopes of a new era,  with the intention of doing so without ever lighting up another one after over 45 years of being chained to the habit . . .

.

.

that was 6 days, 10 hours and 46 minutes ago,  and I have not had one since . . .
